Drug Abuse Types

What are the drug abuse types?

Humans are very creative when it comes to finding substances that can change a person’s mental or physical state. It seems that there is someone who will swallow, smoke, inject or inhale just about anything that has the slightest chance of giving them a high.

The US Office of National Drug Control Policy lists over two thousand different names and slang terms for drugs. Most of these are variations on a smaller number of substance types.

The following links give a brief overview of some of the more common types of drugs that are abused. This list is by no mean comprehensive or meticulously researched. The list is simply intended to provide an introductory overview for those who have no familiarity with the subject and wish some basic information to help them recognize if someone they care about is abusing drugs.

As alcohol is discussed elsewhere in this web site, I won’t address it here.

If you suspect that someone you care about is abusing drugs or other substances, you can look for the signs and symptoms of drug use, abuse or withdrawal.
